Béatrix de CHOISEUL-STAINVILLE, Duchess of GRAMONT (Lunéville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, 1729–Guillotined in Paris in 1794) Aristocrat, Salon Hostess, and Bibliophile - Letter signed “CHOISEUL, Duchess of GRAMONT,” written from the Château de CHANTELOUP (Indre-et-Loire) on January 18, 1774, to Mr. de Bazignan. 1 page, in-4°. She responds to his New Year’s greetings. “I am no longer in a position to contribute to the advancement of your son. I did for him whatever was within my power when my brother held the Department of War (her brother, the Duke of CHOISEUL, was dismissed and exiled by the King on December 24, 1770), and it is to the person who holds that office today that you must turn…” 1 page (20 x 15.5 cm)
