(*) “The Great Wave off Kanagawa” is the most famous work by Katsushika Hokusai, created between 1830 and 1832. This masterful print presents a striking scene in which a monumental wave, with its foamy crests that seem about to crash into three fishing boats, rises against Mount Fuji, which stands serenely on the horizon. Here, the Japanese artist unfolds all his creative genius, using the famous Prussian blue, a pigment recently imported from Europe at that time, to create subtle gradients that give the composition its characteristic depth. Hokusai’s exceptional technical mastery is revealed in every detail: the bubbly foam of the wave, the dramatic movement of the water, the precision of the boats and their crews, up to the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji standing out against a sky of great serenity."}
